Magic File Renamer Help

EXIF Tokens

EXIF and related metadata from image files (JPEG, PNG, TIFF, WebP, HEIF/HEIC, and other mapped rasters - see Supported Formats). Common fields also appear under EXIF columns. GPS latitude and longitude are under Geo.

Named tokens below are the usual way to insert a column. Prefer them over Metadata Field. Date Picture Taken is the shot date. DateTime is when the file was last changed. DateTimeDigitized is when the photo was digitized. On HEIC and other non-JPEG images those named tokens still expand from the file.

These tokens belong on image files. A different type is a preview error, not a blank name. A photo with no EXIF (or a missing field) stays blank.

These tokens only read EXIF into a name. They do not change the file. To write EXIF on JPEG, use EXIF Tag Setter or an EXIF Apply To target.

Date Picture Taken

Formats EXIF Date Taken with a date/time pattern. Missing Date Taken stays blank.

Signature: <exif-date:format-string>

Example: <exif-date:yyyy-MM-dd> - see Date and Time Format Strings.

DateTime

Formats EXIF DateTime (when the file was last changed) with a date/time pattern. Missing DateTime stays blank. This is not Date Taken.

Signature: <exif-datetime:format-string>

Example: <exif-datetime:yyyy-MM-dd> - see Date and Time Format Strings.

DateTimeDigitized

Formats EXIF DateTimeDigitized (when the photo was digitized) with a date/time pattern. Missing DateTimeDigitized stays blank. This is not Date Taken.

Signature: <exif-datetime-digitized:format-string>

Example: <exif-datetime-digitized:yyyy-MM-dd> - see Date and Time Format Strings.
